Skip the salon: 10 professional DIY makeup tips

Hi all, I came across this amazing post on the web and thought of sharing it with you all. Check out these 10 amazing DIY beauty hacks! We spend hundreds & thousands of dirhams at beauty salons in our quest to look perfect and flawless. We cannot do it ourselves because we do not possess the knowledge that beauticians and makeup experts do. The good news is that now you can, read on to know how you can look absolutely gorgeous in the comfort of your own home.

1. There are so many great ways to use Vaseline in your beauty rituals. For thicker, darker, longer looking eyelashes just apply some Vaseline to your mascara brush everyday and then use your mascara regularly. You’ll see noticeable results!

2. In the UAE, we are exposed to heat and then air conditioning throughout the day, which can make the skin dry and flaky. For a smooth application of foundation it’s important to get rid of that dead skin sitting on the top layer of your face before you apply foundation. Mix a bit of brown sugar with honey and gently scrub your face and lips (use a toothbrush for the lips). It’s an easy and cost effective method to exfoliate the skin but works!

3. Makeup looks more complete when colors are coordinated. Color coordinate your lips with your cheeks to create a uniform look that brings your makeup together and looks natural. I love using any lipstick or colored lip balm and then applying some to the back of my hand. From there I use my middle finger to apply the color to the apples of my cheeks by blending upwards and outwards. Looks natural yet together, and it’s so easy to do!

4. It can be tricky to wear red or deep colored lipsticks. As you’re applying lip liner smile a little so the lips get tight and it’s easier to apply. Fill in the entire lip with the lip liner and then with the help of a good lip brush apply the lipstick starting at the center of the lip and blending it outwards. Using a lip brush takes more time to apply but gives you precision.

5. Everyone loves a nice contour. Fake those killer cheekbones by making a fish face to find the natural cheekbone contours of your face. Then use a large fan brush to sweep on a contour powder or matte bronzer. The fan brush blends as it applies.

6. When you make a mistake while applying lipstick don’t wipe it away. Wiping smears the color further and creates a messy look around the lips. Instead, use a bit of concealer on a pointed concealer brush to erase it. I love to use the #195 from MAC. It’s the perfect brush!

7. We all have days when we breakout with pimples. To make them less obvious, stick with matte textures. Anything shiny or shimmery on top of a pimple reflects light making it look more obvious.

8. To create a ‘glow from within look to your skin’ apply your illumizier before you apply foundation. By doing so, the skin absorbs the illuminizer and then blends into the foundation for a more natural glow. I like using Pond’s Gold Radiance Day Cream because it’s a cream but has a gold shine to it.

9. When you’ve applied too much foundation and don’t know what to do, instead of wiping it off which will irritate the skin; spray on MAC Fix + and then take a tissue and lightly pat it on your face. Your makeup will instantly look more natural.
10. We’ve all heard that using a white pencil in the water line can make the eyes appear bigger. For Arab and Asian skin try using a nude pencil instead. White can be too harsh for our skin tones, nude looks a lot more natural and makes the eyes look bigger!

Hope this helps, comment below to us know what worked fr you!

Dark Circles – Causes and Cures

Hi Lovelies! Hope you had a fab weekend! Today at the beauty blog me we will talk about how we can tackle those dreaded dark circles. Read on to discover causes and cures for darkness under your eyes.

When you look in the mirror, do you see a zombie staring back at you? If so, you’re not alone.  Affecting men and women, this common and persistent problem tends to crop up during adulthood and is a major beauty concern among many. Luckily, there are a number of options available to those who want to say goodbye to panda eyes. With a little more effort and work, you can now make those dreary circles disappear for good.

Somehow, no matter how much sleep you get, you always look like you’ve pulled three all-nighters in a row. That’s because fatigue isn’t the only culprit behind dark circles under the eyes. Other factors that contribute to dark circles appearing are stress and age. As you get older, the skin gets thinner, making dark circles more visible.

Before you even think about treatment options, you need to investigate what might be responsible for the discoloration as it can be stemmed from multiple causes.  Read on to discover key reasons along with their cures.

Puffiness – These under eye bags cast shadows that make you look exhausted. Cutting out on your salt and alcohol intake will help you avoid water retention and swelling. Propping up your head with an extra pillow will drain the fluid that can accumulate around the eyes when you’re lying down.

Pigmentation – To identify if excess pigment is the culprit behind your dark circles; you will need to press on the discoloration. If the darkness remains, your dark circles are caused by hereditary pigmentation or sun exposure (or both).

Did your mother or father also have raccoon eyes? Chances are you’ve inherited the condition. Sun exposure, which stimulates melanin production, can also trigger hyperpigmentation. The most effective solution will be to apply sunscreen right up to to your lower lashline everyday.

Our experts also recommend investing in large sunglasses for further protection. Also avoid rubbing your eyes, because friction causes darkening of the skin in the delicate under eye area.

Blood Vessels – You can be certain of blood vessels showing through your skin when the darkness lessens as you press on the dark under eye area. Skin on the eye area is thinner and delicate than other facial skin and does not contain oil glands that can help keep this skin moist. One of the major reasons why experts recommend using a separate eye cream.

Eye creams fight dark circles by temporarily puffing up skin so the blood vessels underneath aren’t as prevalent. If you have oily skin, you may want to consider using an eye gel because it doesn’t contain the same moisturizers, which could increase the oil production in your skin.

Tips on Prevention

  • Apply a moisturizer to the eye area each night.

  • To calm puffy eyes, place cold spoons, slices of cucumbers, chilled tea bags, or even a package of frozen peas under your eyes.

  • If you suffer from seasonal allergies and hay fever, take an over-the-counter antihistamine. This can reduce puffiness and keep itchiness at bay so you won’t be tempted to rub your eyes

  • Vitamin deficiencies can exacerbate dark circles, so cover your bases by taking a daily multivitamin and eat plenty of iron-rich foods, such as beans and dark leafy greens.

The Know – How’s of Night Creams

Hello fellow beauty lovers,

For those of you who have regularly been following The beauty blog me page would know that we have previously covered the topic of Day creams in the blog. LInk –

Moving on from our day light delights,  let us now discoverer the importance of adding a night cream to your daily skincare regime. A question I often find women asking themselves is Do I really need a Night Cream?. We have got the answer for you! Read on to discover the know-how’s of night creams.

If you think that night creams are just a way for companies to sell you another product then you are in for a surprise. Some of you may be amazed to learn that there can be a good reason to use a different face cream at night.  Going to bed with night cream on your face can majorly benefit your skin while you sleep

Most of us are aware that our skin is being bombarded with plenty of negative ions and free radicals all day long. All this stresses our skin and causes sensitivity, which leads to premature aging. Some of you might think that you can probably get away by applying your day cream at night. Before you make that choice, it is vital to understand the advantages a night cream would provide when used alongside a day cream. Read on to learn the benefits of using a night cream.

Contains higher level of active ingredients

Night creams are thicker in comparison to their day counterparts – designed to penetrate deep inside the skin and moisturise it. They are heavy on ingredients like retinol glycolic acid, salicylic acid and retinyl acetate, which provide significant aging benefits. These ingredients help your skin to increase turnover and diminish the appearance of age spots, fine lines and wrinkles.

A tip from us would be to pick a cream that includes retinoid. Retinoid products help your skin retain collagen, which is lost as we age. More collagen in your skin means fewer wrinkles and dark spots.

It is best recommended to wear these ingredients at night as most people experience irritation from UV exposure when wearing during the day. Moreover, retinoid effects can be weakened by sunlight.

Designed to support your skin through rest and repair mode

A day cream is designed to support our skin when it’s in protection mode. It is filled antioxidants, peptides and usually a high SPF to fight against all the environmental aggressors.

On the other hand, a night cream supports the skin when it switches into rest and repair mode. It contains ingredients that aid in the regeneration process, like ceramides, which trigger collagen production, and vitamins A, C, E or B5 that help skin function optimally. These elements also help remove all the dull and dead skin when we are asleep.

 Deep nourishing and restoration

Night creams contain higher levels of emollients and so are more moisturizing than their daytime counterparts.  Our skin is in need of extra moisture at night as the trans epidermal water loss is greatest at night. For those of you who have dry skin or feel their skin is drier at home should strongly consider applying it before going to bed to prevent any kind of dehydration.

The Beauty Blog me recommends the following products for your night pampering:
